The Aviva Challenge
"There must be a beginning to any great matter, but the continuing to the end until it be thoroughly finished yields the true glory"
Sir Francis Drake 17th May 1587
Dee will undertake to circumnavigate the globe on a 72 foot yacht, single handed, non-stop and from East to West. This has never before been achieved by a female, and is arguably the final hurdle in the modern era of around the world sailing
Forward Thinking – The World's Toughest Solo Challenge
In some way I feel I've been preparing for this my whole life. This is my dream. To be the first woman to sail the globe, single handed, west-about. Sailing against the prevailing winds and currents. It's twice as long and twice as hard! Does it scare me? Do I think of death?
We can do more than we think we can. We just have to dare to dream. Dreams are just visions of the future. Nothing is beyond our reach. Our only limits are ourselves. When I am sitting on the water thousands of miles from land, you a sense of perspective about how small we really are. It's very humbling. There is nothing like feeling the power of the oceans to make you connect with nature. Our bodies are 70% water after all.
Fear is the challenge. Ultimately you have to conquer your fear like anything else. When you are on your own, you have to look within for your strength. And if you believe you can do it, you are half way there.
