charities & good causes
Dee supports a variety of charities and projects by raising funds and awareness. Dee considers associations with projects carefully to ensure that she is able to bring something of value to the table. These activities are diverse and range from promoting environmental initiatives to instigating the creation of weight management clubs for young people.
The tri-service initiative charity, Toe in the Water (TITW), aims to inspire the men and women who have sustained often traumatic injuries, including the loss of limbs, to move beyond their disability and to become re-inspired by life.
Having thoroughly enjoyed spending Dartmouth Week sailing with the charity beneficiaries, Dee was invited to become an Ambassador in October 2009.
Sail 4 Cancer, was set up in 2001 with the aim of raising funds not only for cancer treatment and research, but also to improve the quality of life for people living with cancer, helping them maintain dignity and independence whilst providing respite from the 24/7 of cancer.
In 2006, Dee became a Patron for Sail 4 Cancer and has since been involved in various activities to raise awareness and funds for the charity.
As part of her support of Cancer Research UK, Dee takes part in the Southampton Race for Life whenever possible. Race for Life is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK and since 1994, women of all ages and fitness levels across the country have come together at these inspiring events.
Dee was appointed Patron of GAFIRS in October 2011. GAFIRS is one of 61 totally independent lifeboat services and has been delivering maritime rescue and safety services to the seafaring communities of Gosport and Fareham since the late 1960's.
GAFIRS is now a declared rescue facility to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and on 24 hour pager call-out to Solent Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre. In times of regional emergency ,like floods and periods of heavy snowfall, GAFIRS also regularly supports the emergency services effort inland.
Dee is Ambassador for The Green Blue which is the successful environmental awareness initiative from the RYA and BMF.
