Help Dee Help Our Community!

Our key project for 2008/9 is helping to set up a community project in Southampton aimed at combating childhood obesity. If nothing is done 20% of under 16 year olds will be clinically obese by 2010!

A Word from Dee

'As a sportswoman and former PE teacher, I have become increasingly concerned by the rising problem of childhood obesity in the UK. I want to encourage young people to try different activities and adopt healthier eating patterns. It does not need to be sport in the traditional sense either, just anything to get our bottoms off the settee and our bodies moving! The greater the activities people can try, the more likely they are to find something that they enjoy and the more likely it is that they will go back for more. For me, the motivation happens to be sailing, but with the New Forest on our doorstep, the shore all around us and leisure centres and gyms sprouting up all over the place – there is a wealth of opportunity to give things a try in the Southampton area. Please join me in 2009 to get these clubs off the ground'

 

 

With Southampton City Council and Leeds Metropolitan University already onboard, we are now looking for local and national companies to back the scheme. Help us to set up these throughout Southampton and make a real difference to the lives of children in our community and in return we’ll tell the world about the support and help your company is giving us…
