Dee Caffari
Dee Caffari has sailed around the world six times. She is the first woman to have sailed single-handed and non-stop around the world in both directions and the only woman to have sailed non-stop around the world a total of three times.
In 2006 Dee became the first woman to sail solo, non-stop, around the world against the prevailing winds and currents and was awarded an MBE in recognition of her achievement.
Dee’s Diary
Where did January go?
Well, I have to say that I hope the speed of January passing is not indicative of the rest of the year! I can’t believe it is February already but I guess that happens when you are busy. I have been lucky with a varied start to the year, which kicked off in France…
Trip down memory lane
Global Challenge 2004/5 20 year reunion, Portsmouth. On occasion I find myself in the enviable position of being able to give something back to the sport I love, the ocean I am a steward for and provide inspiration to the next generation. In November, I had the…
The race is on
Every four years there is a strange yet strong calling to a small sleepy fishing town in the Vendée region of France. People descend upon this town in their droves. This seaside fishing town turns into an international destination welcoming everyone with open arms,…
World Sailing Trust
The greatest change for me this month has been my tenure as Chair of the World Sailing Trust coming to a close. Back in 2018 I was asked to take on the role of Chair for the newly formed World Sailing Trust. It was with a mix of apprehension and excitement that I…
Gliding to the end of the summer

New skills and honed skills
I must admit to being well and truly in my happy place. Not only has the weather suddenly realised that it’s summer, when I am not enjoying being outside, I have the Olympic Games in Paris to entertain me. I genuinely love watching not just the sports and faces I…
The big launch
The month started sailing Limosa, the MOD 70 for The Famous Project, from Portimao in Portugal to Toulon in the South of France. We left Portugal and then had very light winds when we reached the Gibraltar Straits, resulting in us motoring for about 14 hours. Being an…
A Famous Project first
Credit: Georgia Schofield The beginning of the month began with some coaching for the RORC Griffin initiative. RORC has chartered four Sun Fast 30 One Design boats from Cap Regatta to give young sailors the opportunity and experience to race in the 2024 RORC Season’s…
Let there be light…evenings
A March spent at home was lovely but, like many others, I am totally over the amount of wet weather we have endured. I must admit that as we sprang forward to British Summer Time, I also had a little spring in my step as I walked the dog without getting wet, cold and…
Fast and furious
Credit: Georgia Schofield It was great to return to Antigua mid-February to train and prepare for the RORC Caribbean 600 race. The Famous Project had the core crew of Alexia, me, Marie and Elodie as well as Debs Blair, who had been invited to join the team. Tom Dawson…
